In this 1-week intensive London songwriting course, you’ll explore new creative tools and techniques to develop your songwriting and musical abilities.
Taking place Monday to Friday at ICMP’s Kilburn campus, the course combines songwriting tuition with practical writing sessions, collaboration and feedback. You’ll create new music throughout the week, experiment with different approaches and develop your own creative voice as a songwriter.
If you’ve already written a few songs, have some industry experience or have a basic understanding of songwriting, this course is designed to help you take your writing to the next level. You’ll explore how lyrics, melody, harmony and arrangement work together to create songs that connect with an audience.
Your tutors are experienced songwriters and music professionals actively working in the UK music industry. You’ll analyse songs that inspire you, explore the creative decisions behind them and apply these ideas to your own writing. Guest speakers and industry insights will also give you a broader understanding of songwriting within the modern music business.
Collaboration is a key part of the week. You’ll work with other musicians and songwriters on co-writes, song briefs and arrangements, using ICMP’s industry-standard facilities and equipment. Along the way, you’ll share your work, receive constructive feedback and build connections with a community of like-minded creatives.
By the end of the course, you’ll have written new material, developed practical songwriting techniques, received professional feedback and gained a deeper understanding of your own creative process.

Monday–Friday | 10am–5pm
Morning (10am–12pm)
Songwriting lessons exploring a daily theme and key pillar of the craft.
Early Afternoon (1pm–3pm)
Practical writing sessions, co-writing exercises and song briefs.
Late Afternoon (3pm–5pm)
Group sharing, constructive feedback and Q&A with tutors and peers.
Wednesday (5pm–7pm)
Networking event with fellow musicians, songwriters and music industry professionals.
